The five Rotary Clubs in Southern Ocean County and the Jersey shore Council of the Boys Scouts of America are organizing Operation Halloween, a fund raiser to benefit local charities and Rotary International's Polio Plus Program and the Shelter Box Program.  The event will be held on October 12 and 13 at the Citta Scout Reservation in Waretown.  The hours are Friday October 12 from 3 pm to 10 pm and on Saturday October 13 from 11 am to 10 pm.  For more information go to www.operationhalloween.zombieoutbreak.org.

Volunteers are needed to help, build, staff and act in the production.  Work has already begun, so any person interested volunteering should go to the Operation Halloween website and complete the on-line forms.

The event is also open for any and all non-profit groups with no fee.  Any non-profit may use the website to sign up for a table at the event where they can promote their organization, engage in a mini fund raiser, and just plain join in on the fun.

The mission of the event is to provide families an opportunity for good, clean, wholesome fun.  Included in the venues will be Pumpkin Street Safe Trick or Treat for the youngest members of the family, The Zombie Invasion Fun House for the more adventuresome, The Haunted Hayride through the woods, and the Midnight (really begins at 10 pm each night) Ghost Tour.  Most events are free, but a $10.00 full day pass may be purchased for unlimited access to the fun house, hayride, and ghost tour combined.

Polio has almost been completely eradicated from the world through the efforts of Rotary International and the Polio Plus Program.  The only nations with known cases of polio are Afghanistan and Nigeria.  Shelter Box International provides relief to disaster victims after catastrophic events like the Haitian earthquake, and the tsunami in Japan.  Each box contains a tent, a water purification system, tools, and other items that allow up to 10 people to subsist indefinitely.
