Country Living Fair in the Country
Visit Batsto New Jerse
Are you tired of the same old malls? Maybe you can not take another year of the insanity of Christmas shopping. Are you looking for something special? Different? Perhaps you are looking for something to do on a beautiful fall day.
Batsto was a village ten years before the United States was a country. Two centuries of history are available to visitors. A walk through the village shows how the early colonials lived. It is amazing how small the houses were two hundred years ago.
On the third Sunday of October Basto hosts its Country Living Fair. The park’s foliage is in its glory. Huge yellow leaves fall like gentle snow as you walk the paths from vendor to vendor. For those of us who love to see artists’ creations there are tables of crafts and exhibits. Listen to the music as you stroll across the bridge next to the old mill. Take a moment on the bridge to look out at the lake and see the rushing water under your feet. Past the bridge you will discover old machines, engines and farm equipment our ancestors used. As you walk you will feel transported back in time as you visit the quilters and see the antiques. Stop and buy some food to eat as you watch a sculptor transform a block of wood into a work of art. Take the children on a pony ride and remind them what it was like to live so very long ago.
