Double Creek Dredging In Barnegat Bay

Image titleIn case you haven't been to the Barnegat Public Dock in a while you will see some dredging going on right off the dock in Double Creek  Channel.  The dredging is part of an $8.7 million dollar project which includes Forked River and Barnegat Bay.  Channels to be dredged include Double Creek Inlet, High Bar Harbor, Barnegat Light State, and Double Creek Mainland.  They are now laying the pipeline where it will used to pump the sediment to the Oyster Creek Confined Disposal Facility and the sand to the Barnegat Borough Beach which is located near the Barnegat Lighthouse State Park.


Mariners are to be aware that the State Aids to Navigation (ATON) are being removed as necessary through the duration of the dredging.  The public is advised to be stay alert and beware of buoys, pipeline and other dredging equipment, do not approach the pipeline dredge or any of the project  equipment under any circumstances.  Pipelines can be difficult to see and boaters should maintain "No Wake Zone" speeds in the work zones.


The precise timing and duration of the work is depended on the weather and water conditions and is subject to change.
