Staying active has numerous benefits; Losing or maintaining weight, strengthening joint-supporting muscles, improving heart and lung health, relieving fatigue, reducing stiffness, bolstering mood and lowering the risk of a wide range of diseases. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate- intensity aerobic activity per week. Yet research shows that only 1 in 10 people with arthritis gets enough physical activity. It is probably due to pain and stiffness says Susan Bartlett, PhD, professor of medicine at McGill University in Montreal , who specializes in the effect of weight loss and exercise on arthritis and the mind-body effects of physical activity. When you feel that way, you dont necessarily think, Gosh, I should get up and move, (You Think) I need to just rest. Ironically, too much rest may do more harm than good.
